Gift of Friendship

Life’s Like This — When you least suspect it, a complete stranger can come into your life and befriend you. The gift of true friendship — and yes, it is a gift — can be one of the most kind and enduring acts you can do for someone. I remember years ago, a nurse I worked with said to me, “If you want to know what someone wants out of a relationship, look at what they are giving to that relationship.” When I heard that, I didn’t entirely agree with her. I thought in my mind, sometimes a person who sincerely desires friendship is not capable of returning the same gift of friendship because of some emotional barrier. And while I still believe that is true, for those who fight the curse of loneliness, it’s imperative to examine yourself and what you really want out of life, and if you do, then you will discover that a meaningful friendship can be the best cure to living in harmony with yourself and others. And to experience this wonderful gift, you need to take a risk and invest yourself actively with others that offer the gift of friendship. Continue reading
